In the age of spin, the age where we absorb and recycle visual and auditory content by the nano second, photographer Alec Schlosser finds peace and solace away from the noise several meters under the surface of our oceans. There, his mind is free to capture a moment in time, a moment that can’t be lost in the ether. An abstract expression of the least understood environments on this planet earth.

Amidst this foreign underwater world, a flash of light fills the water column, and an image is captured. Much more than what meets the eye, he strives to create eccentric and distinct images that transcend generic visuals and transform how we see our oceans through abstract expression. Alec focus his eye on the often imperceptible visual opportunity that exists from the vast expanse of a shoreline to the microcosm of a single Coral Polyp. He examines new ways of viewing familiar and unfamiliar subjects, and plays with composition to produce art that is not only unique in perspective, but is equally thought provoking.

Working closely with a select group of trusted professionals, he now brings this collection of limited edition photographic prints to residential and commercial spaces.

Alec, having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, naturally gravitated toward the ocean at a young age. His love for the ocean began when he started sailing at the age of 8. From there he quickly took on an obsession with all things in and around the water and adopted his passions for kitesurfing and scuba diving. He went on to graduate from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with a B.S. in Marine Biology where he focused heavily on molecular biology and chemistry. After spending time in the industrial Biotech space, he realized he was a fish out of water and returned to the marine world to which he was initially drawn. Having extensive experience with optics and light from his former life as a research biologist, Alec now combines his understanding of life under the lens with life under the oceans; to extract concepts and images that exist only in his mind, out of the preverbal ether and bring them to life — and now to the end viewer. These interpretations of our oceans are Schlosser Images

Traveling around the globe, his work takes him to remote locations where he immerses himself not only in the waters of those nations, but in the local cultures as well, often for months at a time. His explorations have taken him to the Polynesian island nations, South East Asia and East Asia, New Zealand, the Mediterranean, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Florida and the Pacific Northwest. He continues to push himself further and deeper, to far reaching exotic places where he can dip beneath the waves in search of something new; a place in which he can find nirvana surrounded by what he has the utmost respect for - the natural beauty of a blue world.

Today, Alec lives in Da Nang, Vietnam where he spends his days diving throughout Asia and the South Pacific, looking through his camera and his minds eye into the blue abyss.
